I thought I was actually going to make it through a project without drawin blood, but had glue seize on assembly and hammered the heck out of my thumb!!

After a couple projects that took a bit longer, wanted a weekend project just for some fun. Made this last weekend and just got a finish on it. Used a board of walnut that had lots of knots and even more sapwood. It was good practice using a plane and avoiding tear out for sure.

I also nearly sawed off the back right pin. Filled it with a thin cut piece but its pretty obvious due to using dark wood to fill a mostly sap wood accidental cut. woops.

On the bright side, after making more boxes than i care to count over the past year or two, getting the hinges set is finally starting to get better. Getting nicely set hinges seems like one of those things nobody has too much trouble with but it is something that has been a headache for me to get right.

Nice job and pretty wood. Love those skinny dovetails. Mortising hinges has always vexed me too but it looks like you’ve got it down…Jim, Stuart,FL.

You did a very nice job on this box and the dovetails look great

Re hinges, I have been working on a simple jig, for 3/4” hinges. Really just leaves depth of cut to figure out. I’m going to try Brusso hinges shortly. Nice work on the box, dovetails are excellent!
