I wanted to try something different with metal and wood and after I made the legs I needed to make a table top – this is the result. The legs have 1/4” bar stock through the wood and bent at the top and bottom for support and attachment to the top. The wood on the the leg is a reclaimed 2×4 from a house built in 1918 – the metal is from Home Depot, in 2017. I like the look of this and tried it with the legs switched so they were alternating, but it really didn’t look right to me – it seemed unbalanced.
The top has 3 pieces of reclaimed barn wood siding from Farmington, NY in the center. It is surrounded by 5/4 pine that I burned using a propane weed burner from harbor freight. In case you didn’t know – those things put out some serious fire! I rally just wanted to try it out and this seemed as good a reason as any. I scrubbed it down with a wire brush after it cooled and then the whole thing was sprayed with lacquer

Over all, it’s not my favorite look in a table, but I think both of these options are pretty cool!

Looks good.
I love it when someone tries something different.
Is there any flex in the metal legs????

Bob.

-- Bob, Western Australia, The Sun came up this morning, what a great start to the day. Now it's up to me to make it even better. I've cut this piece of wood 4 times and it's still too damn short.

Hey Bob – thanks! It was fun to do. Surprisingly, there was very little give on the metal. It’s pretty solid feeling. I can sit on the edge of the coffee table and it doesn’t feel like it’s going anywhere.

Nice work! I like to see metal used in woodworking. Like Bob says “something different”. That’s what I look for every time I come to Lumberjocks.
This is a cool looking table with those sexy legs.

I also like to do the “different”; makes it more interesting.

Nice looking table.
