Tape & Paper Rack

I got tired of searching around the shop for tape and decided to do something about it. I ended up looking on You Tube for some ideas and liked what pocket83 had come up with but I needed more. I wanted enough room for not only my tape but also some paper.

So, I designed a double rack for tape with an upper and lower holder for paper. It’s easy to remove a roll of tape or use it in place. The tape rails are 1” PVC and the paper rods are 3/4” dowels threaded on the end with wooden nuts for easy replacement of the paper rolls. The frame and rails are all made out of 3/4” pine and I drilled and counter bore all the holes on a CNC. I added a ¼” back to give it additional strength and 2 aluminum strips on the front upper and lower stiffeners to tear the paper off.

I also wanted it give it mobility within the shop so I matched drilled and threaded holes in the base equal to the spacing on my bench. I then turned down a couple of 1’ x 4” dowels slightly smaller than the bench dog holes in the bench top and tapered the ends. That allows the flexibility to relocate the holder to where I’m working if needed or place it at the end of the bench out of the way. It can go anywhere along the front, along the rear or across the bench as seen in the picture. By unscrew the dowels from the base, the rack can then sit anywhere as needed. But when it’s not needed I cut a couple of key holes in the back of the top rail so it can be stored on the wall.

What a great idea! Why so many different blue tapes?

Great idea. This is exactly what I need. Hope you don’t mind me stealing the idea.
