This is a chunk of Padauk I found in a scrap pile. I turned and hollowed. the lid is cut to match the grooving by lathezilla on the inside of the bottom. I put a corian cap on it and turned the finial. I’ve made these finials with a shaft of 1/8”, barbells etc. and as tall as 12”. They are called “trembliers” I learned the technique from Eli Avisera. it requires a special steady rest you hold in your tailstock
