Project Information

A little box that came about while our grandkids where visiting and we got into wood burning to have some fun in the shop I made this box based on a building that I remember from a trip and the roof deign sort of stayed in my memory but I can't remember where I saw it . The name is Somewhere because of it .
The box is made from white aspen and all the dark textured areas are burned in with a small electric tool .
The interior is fitted with a burgundy velour just to give it a surprise look when opening the lid and I added some little pieces of walnut to the tray lift and a little medallion to the front .
The overall dimension are 9 X 6 X 4 1/4 and will make a perfect gift for a little girl ..
Finished with several coats of satin poly .
The hinges are SOSS barrel hinges .

Kiefer, I totally agree with pottz. I'm also thinking it's got a little hobbit influence in there as well. It's totally delightful.

Great box, Klaus…...puts me in mind of a little fairy cottage or a gnome home. Ha!
The wood burned texturing is a clever touch of contrast on the Aspen. Nicely done interior, as well.

Klaus, talk about patience being a virtue, you must have a lot. The tree and the hammered look are outstanding. I hope you are not making the grand kids do all the work. It does remind me of a home from (SOMEWHERE).
Congrats on the top 3

Exquisite box for a very lucky girl. Reminds me of Dutch barns. The wood burning details are great. Thanks for sharing.

Klaus you've been busy. All the comments above have said it all. I also agree with Pottz about the European and Asian influence and Bob with the Hobbit look. And what Dave said about the hammers look. I love the way the tree flows into the top. This box has a personality of it's own. The inside… done so nicely with the burgundy velour. Great job!
So what part did the kids ask you to make? ")

very fine and creative craftsmanship. Your design on the top is interesting, can't get that symmetry with the fractal burning, Looks great.
