Project Information

This started out as 6 2X8X8' white oak planks my first time using mortis and tenon joinery, and building something this big, I think I will try loose tenon on the next one and there will be a next one. This one was taken by a friend and now the wife wants one. There was a lot of chisel work making the mortis something new to me.

This is a cool bench with a design that looks close to what Todd makes.

i made one similar to this earlier this year. just a suggestion to make it quicker: i cut out a groove down the length of the rails to accept the slats. i then cut pieces to fit into groove between the slats.

1SGTBob, I really like your design and you made me think of building something similar but a bit shorter by length with shelves to store shoes below rather than drawers. You should try a hollow chisel mortiser if you can get your hands on one, I found it a big help on my cradle project.

Great job. Really nice fit and finish!
If you are intend to do a fair amount of mortise and tenon joinery you may want to get yourself a mortising machine. Really saves time and not a lot of cleanup afterwards
