When I signed up on Lumberjocks, I mentioned I was building a mailbox that I would post when finished. Well, it’s finally done (just needs to be mounted)!
My neighbor across the street has a mailbox that looks like a house, but it is just a shell around an ordinary metal mailbox. You can see it in the background in the 2nd pic. I wanted to design something a little more unique. The design sort of evolved during the building process. It’s made of poplar and some philippine mahogany that’s been lying around the garage for ages. I wanted the roof to look like an asphalt shingle roof (common around here) so I took some non-slip tape (like you would use on swimming pool steps) and laid strips on the roof, snipping them about every 2~3 inches so they would look like shingles. I was pretty pleased with how it worked.
I put magnets around the door opening to make sure that, along with being relatively easy to open, it would close securely to keep out the weather.
I’m curious to see what comments folks have to offer.
Thanks for looking!
