Cherry Gun Cabinet

This cabinet was built as a prototype for a couple of curly white gun cabinets I posted earlier. I built this out of cherry to make sure my design functioned and looked pleasing to the eye. As soon as the client gave the go ahead, this cabinet was pushed to the back of the shop where it sat for several months. Decided a couple weeks ago to too ahead and finish it, and as it neared completion, I started to like its look. A few months ago a woman wanted to purchase it for her husband when it was finished, however my wife thought we should keep it. It has a magnetic lock and several hidden compartments in the base which is opened by a hidden button. I will try to take a video of the base and its secrets at a later date. By the way, the handle and the finial are capped with brass .45 shell casings, kinda added to the gun theme. As always, thanks for looking. Jeff

Beautiful piece, reminds me a lot of the one my dad made for my uncle many years ago. what did you use for finish?

Its a lacquer finish. Tinted the first coat a little to darken in down. 3 more coats, sanded and finished with a satin finishing wax rubbed out to a semigloss sheen.

Jeff, that’s absolutely stunning. I’m not a big fan of glass faced gun cabinets for security reasons. I’ve written several reports where guns were stolen out of them. However your cabinet is truly a thing of beauty. That cherry wood looks wonderful.

really beautiful cabinet, nice work,id love to build one for myself but as burlybob said not very secure, the first thief would make out with a big score.so mine will stay in a 500lb steel safe.

The trick is to put these beautiful gun cabinets into a secure “gun room” with a vault door.

I agree with the security issue, however the pair of cabinets went in a secured gun room, and the prototype does set in my living room but just has some older guns of little value. Thieves would have to get past a security system, 2 dogs and a wife who can be meaner than a snake if you catch her on the right day lol. So I guess it is just a sample a potential customer can look at and I can see while resting in my chair. Actually, its kind of nice seeing a finished project as I spend most of my time looking at unfinished ones
