This is an american flag made with tiger maple. The red strips were separately dyed with cherry shavings soaked in lye water and neutralized. Little late for the 4th but…

Thanks Jim. I actually bought the stars; they come in a package of 50 at various sizes. I think E-bay had the best price.

Better late than never…...nice touch using the figured maple. I have never heard of your method of creating the dye, but the results are awesome.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you bill,
I try to make a lot of my own dye using household chemicals. You can get some beautiful reddish colors from mahogany as well. Just put the shavings in a mason jar, add 3 tablespoon of lye to quart of water and dissolve it and add the shavings to the water. Actually, I do the reverse; add the lye water to the shavings. After 24 hours or so, extract the “juice”. To intensify the color, leave the lid off. Have some vinegar handy in case you get any of this on your skin. It can cause severe burning.

Thanks Candy,
I think it is about 32 X 18. I have to measure it to be sure.
