This boot is dedicated to my carving friend Roger. Last week I received a telephone call from him inviting me for a visit. I had not heard from him for a least 7 years and welcomed the invitation when it arrived.
Roger and I carved together and he continued to take lessons from me for several years to come. He spent his winters in Arizona and continued to carve and compete at carving shows whenever he could. Many times he cleaned up on the ribbons and trophies!
Visiting with him last week was my farewell to my carving friend as he was down sizing his equipment and large cache of weird wood he collected from his travels. Happy Face came from a piece of driftwood he found in the interior of British Columbia. It had been nicely polished from being buffeted along the lake shore. Wood specie I think is spruce. So here is Roger’s boot and it is called ‘Happy Face’ for the feature shown in picture five.

Enjoy your retirement again, Roger!

Interesting history to go with this one Roman. Glad to hear that you and Roger enjoyed your time together, and I hope that he enjoys his retirement. There’s a lot more of that wood in Kootenay lake, so bring a boat next time.
Nicely done.

You are a man of tremendous talent.
Just beautiful
