It’s been very hot here this week, so I secluded myself into the shade of my carving shed and my apple tree to do some quiet carving. This piece of birch wood had been cut in a ‘free-handed’ or reckless abandon way to be the start of a small boot. I didn’t have the heart to toss the wood into the fire bin so my inspiration was to carve a well rounded boot leaving as much wood as possible. As the carving evolved, the name came to mind.The boot needed to go on a diet. Hence, CHUBBY, came into being!
Birch wood is a nice wood to carve and along with the bit of bark lining the top of the vamp, some splits in the toecap and colour in the middle of the wood, a distinct carving was the result. I sealed the piece with French polish.

Now lets turn on the music and…......’do the twist’!

Happy holidays to all, the BOOTMAN!

Roman, it’s another wonderful boot and nicely done.

Another winner Roman! Was this cut from a log (piece of firewood)? Which way does the grain run? TIA

Now Roman that reminds me of a Circus performer’s boot;
one of the very funny, clever little people who made you laugh…
