As I was making the walnut spoon my grand daughter came to watch. She said she would like to design one of her own. I selected a piece of cedar to make hers go quick and easily. She wanted it to resemble a snake with a curvy handle. We sketched out a design and we worked together shaping the spoon. I carved the spoon bowl and and she did some sanding and applied the walnut oil finish which was also used for the walnut spoon. Making spoons is good time working the wood and teaching me how to work with the wood grain. Both are about 12” long. The walnut spoon started with 4/4 wood and the cedar one 3/4 wood. Note the dip in the walnut spoon bowl resulting from a worm hole revealed during carving.
