I made these doors for a guy that built a reproduction of an 1890’s chapel way back in the woods on his property next to a really nice open meadow. This fellow is actually the brother of the guy i built the other similar salvaged pine door in my projects. Word of mouth works! I need to go back and get pictures of the finished chapel sometime.
These are built from salvaged Heart Pine and approx 12’ tall over the gothic transome. When doors get this tall (8 foot) i generally laminate the stiles. Which basically comes down to an 1 1/2” thick Cypress with a layer of 3/8” pine laminated on both sides to make the 2 1/4” thickness. Rarely have to worry about a tall stile moving or warping on you when its laminated this way and then machined and straightened.

wow indeed.
This is on his private property?
The doors are magnificent and inspiring. I can feel the power of them just from the pictures alone!

Really pretty work.
Can you tell us how you made the frames for the gothic arches.
It looks like one wide board per side?

Is there some kind of rule about feeling envious about religious-type stuff? If there is, I’m probably not getting anything for Christmas this year. I think the doors rate two “Dudes!” and at least one thumbs up. To the envy is added jealousy: Our choir “mama” asked me to do something about the doors on the new closet the pastor had had put in to hold the robes (describing the current doors as “dumb” is being really charitable). I was all ready to go … and then the pastor informed us that the bishop had made a rule that, to avoid lawsuits, nobody was allowed to touch a tool inside the church plant, on the grounds, or in the school without a valid contractor’s license. I guess this comes of having a church named in honor of St. Thomas More, the patron saint of lawyers, instead of St. Joseph, the patron saint of woodworkers. Maybe I should join one named for St. Eligius, patron saint of horse doctors.
