After posting my chisel hammer on FB, an old coworker inquired about a cutting board. I explained that I had never built one but that I was up for the challenge! He gave me his desired dimensions (9”x 14”x 2”) and told me that I could have free will when it came to wood species. After completing some research on end grain cutting boards by Marc Spagnuolo and Matt Cremona, I came up with the above design. One side if the cutting board has a drip tray and all of the edges were rounded over with a 1/2” round over bit. I used Titebond III, because it is FDA approved, and used CuttingBoard.com’s Food Grade Mineral Oil. It was amazing to see the colors come through as well as how quickly the maple and walnut wicked up the mineral oil. Check another first off of the list and I can’t wait to see his reaction when he sees it since the only picture he saw so far is of the boards still in their horizontal glue up!

Thats beautiful. I really think those dimensions make the board look way better.

Thank you! I guess the dimensions all depend on what you are planning on doing with it and it’s all about giving the customer what they want!!
