My son returned from Portugal with a piece of Cork Oak bark, about 5” by 7”. He picked it up from the ground on the property he was working and camping on. He thought I might be able to do something with it. At about the same time, my mother painted a picture of her favorite tree for me and gave it to me unframed. I thought the cork bark color complimented the color of the tree trunk. So I made a basic poplar frame for the painting, then covered the front with the cork bark. I applied a few very thin coats of clear varathane to stabilize the surface of the bark.

Very unique!

The cork looks perfect with the painting and the support is a cool idea.
