I was trying to make some new saw horses and needed to mark the same angle on both sides and both ends of the cross bar. That’s when I figured out I’m going to need to get me a bevel guage one of these days. Since I couldn’t run out and get one, I improvised this one. Mine is just two end cuts of a two by four with a wood screw through the end. Simple and effective but I had to use it in combination with my twelve inch combination square. There must be more people that have made their own with better results. I’d love to see others.

Amazing what a few pieces of wood and a bolt will do. I’ve got a bunch homemade jigs and stuff hanging around my shop – stuff that I’ve put together to help me measure what I need to measure, or cut what I need to cut. I never throw them away. Even picked up a couple of books on homemade jigs. Problably saved a few thousand dollars or so on store-bought stuff.
Yep, your probably going to need a store-bought bevel guage. I think that end grain will tend to move over time. But for now, you’ve probably got a good set of saw horses.

I remember building one of these a while back. The Marines call it “Adapt and overcome”, and you did. The nice thing is that you don’t mind loosing or trashing it when you’re done!
