Curly Maple Side Table

A small curly maple table with a pull-out drawer built into the apron of the table. The drawer is done traditionally with half blind hand cut dovetails on the front and through dovetails on the back. The sides of the drawers are dadoed which create the slide with a matching strip mounted to the inside of the apron. This is the tightest and smoothest drawer fit I’ve managed get using this style.
The secondary wood is cherry, which didn’t quite provide the contrast that I wanted but should darken a little with time. The knob was turned from cherry in the Shaker style. I didn’t want any extra jazz on the table since the figured wood hopefully provides enough jazz.
The taper on the legs was achieved with the bandsaw and handplanes.
The finish is inspired by an old Wood Whisperer video and uses aniline dye cut with shellac followed by oil based poly and a coat of paste wax at the end.
Comments, questions, and criticisms are welcomed and encouraged.

Beautiful table and great workmanship. Congratulations. The curly Maple has excellent figure, I wish I had a source for such beautiful wood that was affordable.

Very nice wood. Super grain match on the drawer/apron and the top.
