I picked this Jet 10” lathe out of the classifieds for $200. It’s nearly new, the guy threw in a pen mandrel and around 10 pen and key chain kits.

I built the bench from left over or salvaged materials, the only cost outlay on it was I had to buy some screws as I ran out half way through the project.

I picked up the Jet mortiser a couple of days before, it had never even been out of the box. I gave $150 for it.

A couple of days later a guy I work with brought me this slab of walnut.

All in all it was a pretty good week.

I have that same lathe and it provides for a lot of fun. If you are new to turning, go ahead and invest in a 4 jaw chuck when you can. It will really open up the possibilites of what you can make for you.

I agree with docholladay. The 4 jaw chuck will really help, especially bowls. Have fun with I know I have.

That table looks solid! Good design that should last a long time. Also, the walnut is very nice and nice figured grain. Could your friend be my friend? ;)

Great finds! Funny how one good week can change your perspective on things. So can a bad week. Make the fruits from the good improve the bad.

Awesome. Every time I read about somone’s lathe it makes me cringe at the fact that I hardly ever use mine! Must turn wood…must turn wood…
