Bad Day at Black Rock

I saw a storm moving in toward the mountain in this piece of Myrtlewood, hence the name.

To showcase the scene I used Wenge for the body and then added a little Southwest color using Paduak for the accents.
The ring holder is simply a scrap of Paduak between two strips of Wenge that slides over two Maple rails, it can be lifted out if desired.
The handle is a cut-off from the Myrtlewood panel that has a great ripple quality in the right light.

The panel is sandwiched in between the lid pieces, you tell see this by looking at the underside of the lid in the last picture.
The lid is made up of a total of eight pieces.

Semi-gloss lacquer.

A great design as always, but the wood selection is extra-special on this one, Andy.

Another awesome box Andy. There is always somthing special and unique in each box. We love the ripples and contrasting colors on this one and how it expands larger at the top than the bottom. We also always enjoy any box that includes the color chocolate brown.
