Custom Chess Table made from Wenge and Ash. First time using these two woods. Very dense, hard to turn, not bad to carve, easy to sand, lots of splinters, Wenge $17/bd ft!!! but the Wenge really makes the set. Still have to add another 6 coats of lacquer…and the storage drawer handles. Table measures 32” wide by 28” across, by about 29” tall.

That is an all time great set design. I am a chess nut, and that is just really great design. So clean and yet such character. Hope to make sets someday when I get a lathe. Beautiful set and perfect table to match.

Yep… beautiful work, Jim! I like the way the playing field is raised…. and how the legs are offset… and I really like the white accent line running around the apron. Of course, all your chess pieces are so well carved and full of character… but in everyone of your boards that I have seen… the sum is always greater than the parts. Best to you!

This is a beautiful chess table and so nicely done. It has very nice details and craftsmanship.
