My first Coffee table is based, or at least inspired, again by a Sam Maloof sketch I saw in a book about his work. I believe the sketch was for a round dinning table but I thought it would be a neat oval coffee table. The base reminds me of a Sci-fi, or Star Wars, space ship landing gear. It looks fairly fragile but is surprisingly strong, I would have to stand on the end and maybe even jump on it to break it. The top was made from two book matched board that my Grandfather sawed on his Woodmiser mill. My wife Christa, Evie and I are very happy with it. Evie can craw under and around and pull up on it with out encountering any sharp edges.
