This was going to be a bar top. I measured the existing bar and it was 64”. I repeated 64”, 64”, 64”, 64” in my head all the way to the shop. I laid out all of the material, glued them down, clamped them, framed the piece, grouted it, and finished it. I brought it into the house and set it on the current bar top to get an idea of what it will look like and it was 10” shorter. Somewhere between the house, I guess, and the shop my repeating of 64” turned to 54”.

Life lesson: write stuff down.

I took it out to the shop, cut keyhole slots in the frame and hung it up in the dining room between the china cabinet and the desk, over the bench. Yes I know the pattern runs crooked, that was on purpose for visual appeal and conversation. The engrain pieces are from the same barn my table to came from. These, however, have much water damage which also appealed to me when I started slicing the boards.

The look is very appealing!
How well the grout and wood are holding up together?
