A Hopeless Romantic's 5th Anniversary Gift

My 5th year anniversary is on June 2nd, but we decided to celebrate this weekend (memorial day and all).

The traditional gift for the 5th year of marriage is something made of wood. This had me pretty excited so I set about back in December procuring wood on my extremely limited budget. I got my timber, cut it, and made what you see in the photos.

It’s more philosophical than practical. A quick explanation:

The 5 tines represent the 5 years of marriage. The heart on the left represents me (it’s thicker, taller, more masculine) and the heart on the right represents her (refined, beautiful, more feminine).

The hearts on the sides represent two separate lives and the tines being interwoven represent how two peoples lives grow together throughout the years. And lastly, the space in the middle is where we will put smaller hearts for our future children (which may happen sooner than later).

The wood used for the tines is some figured cherry, the masculine heart is from the same cut of timber, and the heart is from figured maple. The hearts were coping sawed out and carved by hand.

Anyways, have an awesome day!

Wow, she does have you whipped real good.
I made mine a wood clock for our 5th… she would know when it was time to cook me dinner.
