Cover block/hat press made for a USMC Drill Instructor. Top and bottom made from baltic birch plywood with purple heart trim. Engraving was done after delivery, which added a very nice touch to the project. Wish I had some pictures of that!

Damn! Now I know how my drill kept his hat that flat! :-)

Great job, although it gave me shivers reminding me of basic training. ;-)

Awesome job! I’ve had some ideas for one on the back burner for a while. How, and what size, did you cut the opening? Ooh Rah!

Vick, the opening is a 8 7/8” x 7 1/2” oval. I used a photo editing program to get it to the right proportions and then printed it out to create a template. With it finalized to the right dimensions all I have to do is run a bearing/bushing guided straight bit in my router along the template to make the same oval every time. Works like a charm!
