My grandfather gave me an 1853 penny – about 50 years ago. Thought I would make a box for it. Bocote top, walnut bottom, sliding dovetail top. Coin sits on a felt pad. Teak oil finish to be followed by wax in a week or so.

Nice work, Ron. What a great keepsake, and you gave it a nice home. I love bocote, btw. It’s hard to imagine a more perfect wood for small boxes.

What a beautiful box this is. It displays spectacular wood, wonderful detail and character, and outstanding craftsmanship.
