I wanted to try something a little different. I’m not sure I’m crazy about the gloss finish.

That’s a well-crafted piece. I like that you used “common” woods.

This box is very attractive and creative. It’s a beautiful design and nicely done.

I think pine has gotten a bad reputation for “artistic” woodworking. It is soft and can be difficult to finish, but it comes in a huge variety of grains and patterns (and it is cheap 8^).

Good show!

Very nice. Simple yet elegant. Nice use of pine and I do like the gloss finish.

Thanks everyone. This turned out better than I thought it would have. I am going to attempt a similar design using mahogany for the main body with legs and lid done in maple. Possibly tiger maple. Brass pins to raise the handle off the lid. Wish me luck!

Duff, I like the arched design. The woods present a nice contrast. How did you join the legs to the sides? I think trying a design and making several versions of the concept is a great way to improve the work you do. I often do that on boxes I make. Good luck on your next variation. Keep boxing and keep posting.

Thanks Al. With my minimal knowledge I only glued the legs to the box. I know that being end grain this isn’t a really strong union. A mortise and tenon would be better but I have never done one. I think I need to invest in a bench vise and start practicing.
