Well here it goes. First “project” to be posted on LJ. On mother’s day my wife was washing the baby in the tub and said “you know, a stool would be nice.” lol and my reply was, “I bet it would.” It is better to be a smart a$$ than a dumb a$$ right?!

I told my boss (the guy that pays me, not my wife) that once …. hmmm, lead balloon comes to mind. Of course i couldn’t stop there once my foot was in my mouth i might as well chew some more. I then said, “besides who is the biggest dumb a$$, me or the guy that hired me”? He just walked away.

So back to the stool. I had some scrap wood that came from a shelving unit that we were just going to haul to the thrift shop. I was going make this with a hinged lid so that we could put my little girl’s bath toys in it. I was then going to drill holes in the bottom so that things dried out. In the middle of putting things together it dawned on me that if I hinge this little “box stool” someone is going to smash some fingers trying to dig her toys out. So i just nailed it up tight!

I walked into the house an hour and a half later with this in hand. Anyway, she was impressed and kind of mumbled “happy mother’s day.”

Thanks!

Hey man. You can’t go around turning out cool projects like this in a couple of hours. My wife reads this site too. You need to leave that stool in the shop for at least a couple of days before you haul it indoors. (It’s in the posting rules…)

Best,

I agree with Jim, when SWMBO wants something, I say “I’ll get right on it, Dear”. Then I’m off to the shop.

To do something else. I don’t even start the new project for another couple days. If they get used to fast work, they expect it always.

Do you know the three rules to a happy life?

1. Keep your wife happy.
2. Keep your sisters happy.
3. There are no exceptions to 1 or 2.

Anything that I can consider finished and be able to use is a victory in my book. It may not be pretty, but I’ll take the lessons learned to get closer on the next project. Keep it up.

I’ve also told my mother numerous times that it is better to be a smart@$$ than a dumb@$$. She can’t disagree and I win every time. The wife on the other hand… she just gives me a look and walks away. :)
