Here is my first project of the spring. My wife bought our 8 month old son a swing since he liked the ones at the park so much. We did not have a suitable tree to hang it in and since we move so much I wanted something we could take with us if needed. My first attempt at building this failed since the design was made in my head while at Lowes picking up the fasteners and some of the longer boards. I didn’t post that picture. The final design you see in the pictures is what I came up with the next day at work will doodling around in AutoCAD and trying to get some dimensions that worked.

The wood is just your average pressure treated lumber. There are a few scrap pieces I had laying around added for support and some deck boards added to the top for the heck of it. I may add two more horizontal pieces to the side just for some more rigidity but I have to make a stop back at Lowe’s to get some longer pieces. The center strut has I-bolts with washers and a nut that holds the swing.

In case anyone hasn’t work with PT lumber, this wood was slightly wet from a recent rain storm. I really wanted to get this project done so I did not wait for the wood to dry. After building this, the actuall lumber shrunk about 1/4” once it had completely dried out. This did not effect anything but would if it had been used for something more precise.
