A coworker, Brenda, is retiring at the end of the year. She cut down a cherry tree in her front yard and brought me some of the logs so I made her a couple of bowls. I started them months ago. I left them thick, coated them with paste wax and paper bagged them. After about 3 months on the shelf, they had finished drying so I re-turned them and thinned them down. After several sandings I coated them with a mix of shellac/mineral spirits/boiled linseed oil. Then a few coats of regular shellac and then polished with Renaisance wax.

They look great. I’m learning turning myself and as Alistair said, it does seem addictive.

Very nice! How did you keep the log from splitting on the ends?
Thanks.
