This was a commissioned piece – The projector was usually sitting on the table, but laptop computers, hands, people’s heads etc. kept getting in the way. The client was using a cardboard box for a while and got sick of that too.
Construction is 3/4” red oak veneered plywood.
Alll raw edges were veneered with oak.
The curves in the piece are based on a 1-Gallon paint can.
The platform in the middle can be adjusted and is held in place by a piece of threaded rod with screw-down handles on each side. There are extra fender washers between the platform and the sides so that nothing scrapes.
The platform is a piece of oak plywood, with a frame made from solid oak, rounded over and mitered corners.
Finish is “Golden Oak” stain, followed with sanding sealer, two coats of poly.
The fact that the phone fits below is just a lucky accident.
