nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Hi All
It’s been some time since I have added anything to my page. Here is one of the five maple boxes I have made recently. A month or so ago I was talking to my sweetheart, Cindy, about how I needed to find some good wood to make some more boxes with, I had just been working on a series of 10 small boxes I made from poplar, that I had cut from pallets, looks great, but, I wanted to work with some kind of hard wood. Well, she was looking in uncle Henry’s, a Maine based classified add pamphlet, and said they have some maple for sale, why don’t you go and check it out, I was not too sure about it, but, she insisted, even lent me the money for the wood, so, I went and picked up about 600 board feet of 1 1/4” rough cut, 10 footers, most 4” wide, with some 6, and 8’s in there. Picked through some of it, and put it to my joiner/planer, and then re-sawed some on the band saw, and there it was, a picture perfect scene of the mountains and foreground, just had to make a lid out of that, I also made another out of the opposing mirror image from the other side of the cut. I used some of the blood wood my brother Herb gave to me, for the outline of the scene and some more plan maple for the outside picture frame, cut the angles off of the 45 degree to give it a different look, that was hard for me with my, less than perfect tools, but turned out very well. I could not believe how nice some of the wood turned out to be, thanks Honey for the inspiration to go and get the wood, and thanks again to my brother for giving me the planner, band saw, and the exotic wood I used in this project. I’ll try to get the other boxes posted soon. Keep working and sharing It’s Mic woodworker nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Wow! That’s absolutely amazing. Especially seeing the back of the lid – how strikingly different it looks on the other side. You captured it so well.

You done good, but I don’t see a mountain scene. It looks more like the woodlands to me. :D

It’s obviously the mountains beside the ocean. Don’t you see the waves crashing on the beach, with the mountains in the back ground? ;-)
That’s a sweeet box!
Good job.

A beautifully simple box that you have let the wood speak and tell its story! Great workmanship – art!

Fantastic box. You did a wonderful job of letting the wood show it’s inner beauty.
Keep it up.
