Threaded inserts are very handy. I used two of them and screwed them into the end of one half of my workbench. A scrap piece of plywood with two slots and two bolts and the adjustable planing stop is ready to use.

Exactly! Imagine how old the wedge might be and it is still one of the most essential and useful tools. :)
