Potting Bench

Okay, first off I must confess, this was started last spring and I moved it from my small shop to it’s permanent location for assembly. At that time I did not have material for the top and just placed a couple 2xs across the top for effect, and before I knew it, it was covered with plants and potting stuff.

This project is a much needed upgrade to our problem of having to many house plants and they spend the summer outside.

Frame is 4×4 white cedar for the posts and 2×4s for the rails, and it’s assembled in true post and beam fashion.
Top, which I just finished, is leftover 5/4×4 Fir decking that I had all but forgotten about in my temp tent storage shed, which collapsed this past winter under the snow load and I’m now in the process of cleaning up.
Figured I better put something before the bench was again covered ;)

Thanks for looking.

Thanks Guys!

Art,
Yeah I had to get this finished before Mother’s Day, it’s when she officially starts her outside gardening and repotting of the indoor plants.

Solid looking bench. I made something similar once out of old 2×6 deck boards, but put some lattice on the back. I have found that to be a handy place to hang things. Great job!

Lattice for the back, that’s a good idea, I’ve been looking at that space and trying to come up with something.
