My DW asked me to build a second birdhouse. It seems that the one my youngest and I made last summer is now in demand… with two different pairs of birds arguing over ownership. A pair of swallows and a pair of wrens. So I found some Box elder in the shop that was just sitting there gathering dust. SO in just about an hour I made this:

Nice birdhouse Ned. We really like the live edges on some of the components.

Thanks for sharing.

Good Luck!

Thanks all!

TS I don’t think the feathered neighbors have spotted it yet… after all I just put it up tonight… and I started building it at about 9pm local time.

Rick, I love natural edge for birdhouses as much as I can… I need to make somre more with the rest of the boards tomorrow.

Nice Bird House Ned! Good Looking Apprentice Also!

I just put a couple up about a week ago, specifically for Swallows. Both are now occupied by MOSQUITO STEALTH FIGHTERS aka Swallows!

I should build a Dozen more! ...LOL…

Well done. No paint? Well, that’s more natural and better for the birds.

Best,

Serge

I prefer not to paint them. My wife believes differently…

I’d just as soon they weather naturally and there’s no chance that the feathered friends are affected by the paint.

Ned, one of my books on birdhouses clearly mentioned that they should not be painted, at least no dark or armfull oil paint and/or stain, and of course avoiding pressure treated wood. But only the birds have the last word, after wifes, of course!!! LOL

Here’s a picture of the model I use (again, from the same book). Swallows like them. Too bad only one family allowed per ± one acre.

Best,

Serge
