Three stories shelve
To store the toys of my boys (just on eof them was born when this project wa finished) I made a three stories shelve. Actually, the three shelves are independent of each other, each is a trapezoid without the base. The angles are 100°, so the angle connectors were set-in by using a specially made stencil for the router (sorry, no pics made that time.)

The sides were planed and glued together, then cut to angle on the table saw. After routing the recesses for the angle connectors, the whole thing was screwed and glued (second picture).

The wood is again douglas fir deck planks. Web clamps are used only temporarily.

Great useful idea. The Shelf version of nesting tables. this could be used in apartments for shelf and coffee tables or just shelves for new couples. Or kids will make forts and play areas. I have 3 grandsons and they could do many things with these apart.

That was exactly the idea. The fun part with using a 100° angle instead of 90° is that the horizontal part is always the same length – even though they nest. Makes also quite an optical illusion – people do not think that the horizontal decks are the same length when they see them

Nice angled shape. Just wondered how you clamped it – good solution on second photo.

Hi majuvla,

looking back (the work was done a few years ago) I also wondered how my previous self clamped that. Must have worked, though. The shelves have survived the test of time.

The crucial part is revealed slightly in the photo: the nesting tables are clamped together separated by appropriate shims – thus you can apply pressure to the top without the bottom escaping. Hope that helps the understanding.
