A traditional Icelandic box thing I made for my grandmother. Made of pine, bent in an oval. Took a while, but I’m pleased with it. You can pick it up by the handle and carry it around, provided you don’t put anything too heavy in it. I tried really hard to make the inlay be real egg, but after way too much time I had to accept that that wasn’t going to happen so it’s whispers a plastic dollar store easter decoration. It feels very real though. I should know, I handled a lot of them.

I like those traditional stuff. Very good work on banding wood.

Lovely lunch box, fine work and lucky grandmother to have you.
Impressed by the fine lettering you have done also.
These have been on my ‘wish to make’ list for a long time and now I feel even more inspired.
Here two old Danish versions (I’m Danish).
Best thoughts,
Mads

Very cool idea and well executed as well! I’m thinking the couple who supply me with eggs will be getting one of those to decorate their kitchen! Did you have to steam it to make the shape? Looks fairly thick-walled…
Thanks for sharing!

Very nice but, not what I expected to see. Not your fault of course, just where my mind is at.. Our chickens have started laying and we’re hatching faster than we can sell them and I’m having to build new housing- “chicken boxes.”
But yours is very nicely done and I especially like the runic like carving in the lid.
Have your say...
