I think i came around to making this stool like some sort of rebellion against too much tediousness. I got some old salvaged pine pieces that i had with less than perfect characteristics (even some rot!) and set about making it look like an old friend thats been around for years.
A lot of the rough texture came about by using a formica router without the base, and a core box bit and just sorta using it for a light free hand brush stroking technique. I don’t recommend this if you’re not completely familiar with how much unintended damage such an unguarded bit at high speeds can do.
I tested the stool out and think i’m gonna keep it in my shop for use when i’m in the sit down pondering mode. It aint like i gotta worry about it getting knicked up! Hehe

this GORGEOUS.
I bet it will become the favourite “seat in the house”. Pull this up by the potbelly stove … oh yah. love it.

You may have very well just made the perfect stool. That pine sure has a lot of character. Looks like something straight out of Clint Eastwood Flick. Job Well Done

It came out great!
I’m not sure I have the necessary anatomical accouterments to try that technique with the router, though.

Cool. The bit about the router sounds quite adventureous.

Oh yes, I like that a lot and I’m afraid I’m completely familiar with how much unintended damage such an unguarded bit at high speeds can do!! But I don’t like to think about it. Your stool put me in mind of this ancient workbench at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet in Sheffield, Yorkshire:

Though I’m not sure how comfortable it would be to sit in, the look of the seat really sets that stool apart! Nice work.
