I finally was able to upgrade to a real dust collector! My shop vac has been a workhorse, but the additions of a jointer, planer and bandsaw have pushed it to the limit. It was well past time for a bigger sucker!

I ordered a Super Dust Deputy, 10 feet of 4” flex hose, and the Long Ranger remote. I drove all over north MS and southwest TN before I was finally able to lay hands on the HF dust collector. I put it all on a shop built cart. I put the Super Dust Deputy on a 35 gallon barrel with an airtight locking lid that I found on Craig’s List.

Took 2 days to complete the build. All butt joints and screws. The fittings were tough to find, so I had to get creative in spots. Sealed everything with aluminum tape.

The last picture shows how much dust was in the bag after a full day of use. The barrel is about 1/4 full. Very pleased. I would have been forced to dump the shop vac at least once with all of the planing and jointing that I did. Now, I need to sell another project so that I can get my Wynn filter. Eventually, I am sure that I will end up running pipes for dedicated drops at each tool, but for now, I am keeping it mobile.

Looks like you’re set to go. Having it mobile for now will let you decide how you might want to place it permanently and run your hoses… or you might decide you just like the portable way. My wife bought me a HF collector for Christmas and its still in the box… I’ve got to take time to set it up but life gets in the way… that and I’d rather work on a project than work on a dust collector… haha.

Congrats!

Looks great. At some point I will be getting an HF collector for the basement shop. Based on this, I will be copying your set up! :)
