I made this little box as a high-school graduation gift for my son. This was a fun project.
I based the design on a box that I bought about 25 years ago. The carcase is black walnut. The lid is mostly bird’s-eye maple with some padauk, black walnut and cherry. I put green felt on the inside bottom. I included a 6” ruler in one photo to give a sense of scale.
The small dowels at the back of the lid slide in the slots in the carcase. To open the top, you slide the lid forward and then rotate it up from the front.
The finish is boiled linseed oil and carnuba wax.
I am pretty sure that with the addition of some ca$h inside the box, my son will be very happy.
