This walnut table was inspired by Matt Downer of Matt Downer Designs in Rico Co. This was one 6 foot slab of Walnut that I was able to get the table, pedestal, and base out of. The entire table was completed with hand tools and plug in power tools. No big machinery. The table is 30” x 16” x 29” tall. The foot and table attachment joinery is half lapped. Very strong. The finish on the wood is several coats natural Danish oil and several coats of Poly. There’s some great grain and figuring on the table top. Lots of character. During the build I decided to add some 1/8” cold rolled steel sheet on the front side. I’m working on methods for creating different patinas on the metal. This one is rust with clear coat. The final touch is the “old school” square head iron nails.

This table is a tribute to my friend Gordon as he enjoyed construction and woodworking.

Very unique!
Where did you get the idea for this design?

Wow! Greg, this is a real beauty and I love the design and the wood. It has lots of nice details and craftsmanship.

Pretty cool design features and wood combination. It’s in art work domain.
