I found out last Thursday that I needed to have my knee worked on, torn meniscus, and would need either a crutch or a cane post surgery. So, at 6’8” I have a little trouble running out to Walgreens and getting something in my size. 2 days later…

Pretty badass cane Ron!

I been wanting to make a cane too.

How do you join the handle to the cane? I was thinking just drill a 1/2” hole in both the handle and the cane ~ 1.5” deep, then glue up ~3” x 1/2” OD dowel.

Am I close?

Well done on the vulture!

Charles: A lot of cane makers use a piece of 1/2 inch all thread instead of a dowel. Epoxied in, it gives added strength, particularly for a heavier person.

Thanks! In my case, I created a 3/4 inch tenon 2” long at the top of the shaft. I used epoxy to join that into a mating hole in the head.

At 330 lbs, I can tell you that there is zero flex at this point. After surgery, this thing took my entire weight and just smiled :-)

I’ve wanted to make a cane as well. I don’t need one but I would love to make one. Excellent carving
