I am very happy with my first real woodworking project. I started this Marc Spagnuolo cutting board quite a while ago, but I my newfound hobby was derailed for a time. Now I’m back at it, and finished this up.

For me, Marc’s videos are perfect. Can’t say enough good about them. And this site is just amazing – I’ve learned so much from folks here, and now I’m actually showing off what I created!

Looks great! Looks like you got a really good finish on it, too.
What’s next? :)

Looks good alright, what’s the wood? Maple and walnut?

Yeah, I guess there is a bit of purple in that dark wood ;-))

Thanks everyone! The friend I gave it to loved it. Mary Anne, next up is another cutting board – for Mother’s Day. Did the first glueup last night. Then I’m going to learn handcut dovetails and make a small box. Eventually I have plans to make furniture. Topomax, it’s not the most purple purpleheart, but that’s what it is. The finish is several coats of butcher block conditioner that I saw in a box store (basically mineral oil and wax).

Great! Your plan sounds like mine, except I think I’ll skip the handcut dovetails (gasp!) and work on some segmented turning instead. I look forward to you next board(s).

Yes Mary Anne, dovetails are kind of scary to me, but I love a challenge, and the precision appeals to me. Been reading articles on layout and execution. Ha, just noticed that’s a raccoon on your head! Looks like a loving pet. Good luck with the turning.
