When I stumbled across this stick I had never heard of or seen this wood – cork tree – before . It grows at the water’s edge it was heavy and took forever to dry , but once dry was light as a feather . The bark is like ,, well ,, cork , kind of soft and looks like cork . I didn’t do much to this hiking stick , just cleaned and oiled the bark , cleared an area for one’s hand , mounted a compuss in the top , installed a brass tip to protect the bottom , and lined the hole for the leather wrist strap with brass tube. SOLD

Wood – Cork Tree
Finish – Danish Oil
Top – Ball Compuss
Bottom – Brass Tip

Thank you for your interest .

Interesting figure in the wood beneath the bark. Is the wood soft?

Yes it is quite soft, a white creamy colour , the figuring you see in the handle area , is the inner bark , very simliar to what you would see in cork flooring.
