This is one of three Krin Drums I have made for our drum circle. It is from Maple. The Claves are turned from Horse Chestnut. The Krin is made by cutting slots in a log and hollowing out using a chainsaw.
Here is a video of how it sounds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaQ0029FiqM

Thanks Jim :) I’ve made a few of these from different species of wood and I’m working on a much larger one around 3 feet long. They sound great.

Hey Chris, how did you get interested in a Krin drum? Will there be handles on the big one?

Hi John, I have played music most of my life and I love percussion. I have made a few guitars and drums over the years and I needed drums for a drum circle, but there isn’t much available here and I remembered having a play on some Krin at the Africa Oye festival a few years ago. I have plenty of logs and a chainsaw, so started to experiment with different shapes. I think the big one will need to go on a stand. I don’t think I would like to stand with it hanging from my shoulders :D
