I have been helping my 10 year old son Cash build his first pinewood derby car.

He is really into WWII history and when we found a set of plans for this in Troy Thorne’s book, Pinewood Derby Designs & Patterns, he said “We have to build that one!”

We started with a regular derby car kit.

The original didn’t have plans for a machine gun but Cash insisted on a .30 cal Browning.

We have about 20 hours in this project.

What an adorable freckled face young man he is – and so glad he’s into wood working like Dad! Great design and painting.

Don’t know if it will be the fastest, but I know it is the best looking!

Love it I hope he wins the race or at least a prize for the build.

Do they give awards for design? Looks like a 1st place for sure if they do.
My dad had a Willys Jeep when I was a kid. Loved the adventures we went on in it. Thanks for the memories. :)

That is sweet! And it fits in the measuring box? Good luck with the races! i can’t wait until my son is old enough for Scouts my nephew outgrew it so I only got to help him with 3 cars (2 first place, one second) Nice Job!

I might just have to make that next. It will match my Military passion.
