In viewing other peoples’ carvings here, I managed to pull out some old photos of my own and scan them. These are 1) a catalpa stump given to my brother for his cabin, 2) a piece of driftwood carved for the entry to a newlywed’s home, and 3) the earliest pieces, when I was new to the tools and experimenting. All are eight or ten years old. The carving tools are now being dedicated to turning projects, though I have a request to carve “an elephant…any elephant.” Still thinking about that one!

Hi BarbS;

Really nice work here.

Elephants are really tough to carve. It’s almost impossible to get them to hold still.

Thanks guys. I hadn’t considered that, Lee! I’ll search out some strong tie-downs first.

Well golly gee Barbs – I didn’t even know you were a carver! So you’ve finally come out of the closet! I love the face on the stump!

The wood spirit is my favoritel Barbs. I am especially impressed with the way you did the hair. I’ve never seen it so well done before.

Mornin’ Barb..great hair!! I’m no carver, so my opinion is worth what you are paying for it!!! The stump is just fantastic. (My computer acting up and I can’t get pics of other stuff)

Very nice barbs, I’ll bet the spirit looks much better when you meet him face to face.

Well, thanks everyone! I posted these because I was showing a local woodworker photos of some old work, and he commented that stump was his favorite picture of all of them. It just goes to show, the way others perceive our work is not necessarily how we see it! Glad you enjoyed it.
