Here is one of my favorite pieces. A customer asked for my to design a retirement shadow box for him that resembled the 9 skill level badge that Air Force aircraft maintainers wear. He had seen one made of plywood and said it wasn’t quite what he was looking for. I was getting interested in doing Intarsia so I decided to try my hand at it with this project. It took about 3 weeks to complete (while doing other projects as well) but turned out great and the customer was greatful when it was done. One is made of solid Mohogany, the other is Oak, they have one solid piece of glass, is 3” deep with a blue felt background. Thanks for looking. Enjoy! Nice work. I’m retired AF myself and now my son is getting ready to retire. He found your posting and liked the idea so much, he’s designed one very similar for me to make. What size flag did you use for this? Looking at my flag case which holds a 3×5 flag, the case itself is 2 feet across. I’m guessing, with a flag that size, the badge must be at least 4 feet side to side.
