I turned this large Mallet from a piece of Hard Maple from my firewood pile. It was supposed to be a practice turning piece, but I’ve since used it a lot and really like the weight and size of it :)
The Mallet is:
10” long overall (25.5cm)
5” across the head (12.7cm)
The handle is 1 1/2” (3.8cm) wide and 3” (7.6cm) long
It is about 2.2lb’s (1kg) in weight.

Hi Papadan, It is heavy, but it doesn’t feel bulky to me. I have a lot of control over the strikes when I’m using it.

Hi John, I wish I took a picture of the fire log before I made the Mallet. You never know what beauty is hiding in a piece of wood. I’m happy with the look of it as well as it being a usable tool :)

Very nice looking mallet. Can you shave some dimensions with me? I constantly find pieces of wood in my firewood pile that would make great looking mallets!
