The second of two Maloof inspired rockers, I’m sending to sunny California for a nice couple there with new twins. This rocker is made from local cherry, sawn and air-dried by me. It has a nice “orange” color that I did not expect.

Very handsome. They’re headed near the homestead of Sam Maloof.

CA will be better for the new acquisition…very nice chair….makes me want to get to work on my chair (it is on my honeydos…and on a very long list…LOL)..That is some beautiful cherry and the work is fantastic. Did you spray or hand finish? Is that a gloss finish?

Yes, someone said going home near Sam Maloof’s old place, yep near San Diego…in this case the family lives by the ocean west of San Diego, is only about an hour southwest of Rancho Cucomonga…Sam’s old home. Its kinda ironic to meet and work with Sam many times and then finally send a couple of chairs to his old area. I actually feel like I’ve broken some un-written law or something. I just hope nobody compares mine to one of his…I’d have to hide under my workbench for a week!
The finish is BLO, minwax satin and minwax gloss. I’ve described in one of these forums how I put it on, I need to do a BLOG on it, I’ll work on that. There are 8 coats of gloss and 1 of satin. I use the wipe on type of minwax in the small can.
Thanks for the nice comments!

I could never repeat it the way Sam Maloof said it, but it was sorta…. BeeeeUuuuutifull. I never heard another person say that word the way he did. But beautimus is certainly good enough!
