Catalpa Stump. I designed & finished the piece & my partner Bob Henry Turnrd it. It is Catalpa wood, 24 tall & 13.5 in diameter. Modified spar urethane finish.

This is very impressive. I’ve never seen captured rings that large.

i’m aspiring to do stuff like this, although with how weakly my lathe is mounted and my limit of 400 rpm i don’t think i would Dare try anything that wasn’t already almost perfectly rounded at 24” long with that diam…i have 15” over bed capacity, but i think i would break this up into two parts, ‘n maybe use a contrasting wood (or dye it) at the seam…great work, thanks for the inspiration! keep it up =p
